Good Record-keeping Habits for the 2012!

As we all promise each, “this year I’m going to be more organized.” Maybe you or maybe not, but start off 2012 by getting organized for your taxes so 4/15 doesn’t hurt so bad each year to get ready for. Here are some tips to keep things organized so you’ll be ready to meet with us!

  • Get a 3-ring binder to keep a record of your estimated tax payments, receipts and acknowledgement letters from charitable organizations for your contributions, information returns and other tax related information you will need when it is time to file your taxes.
  • Get an expandable file for receipts from medical and other deductible costs. Or you could scan these receipts into your computer. Remember, we just need to total, not the receipts.
  • Use a phone app or come by our office to get a mileage log to keep track of deductible miles for business, medical, moving or charitable purposes.

Just a few simple steps that will help keep you organized so you’re not sorting thru piles of receipts at the end of the year!
